CHEMISTRY ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) TEST

The AP test is generally suited to students who have completed 2 years of chemistry in high school.  The test lasts 3 hours and 15 minutes and is a mixture of multiple choice and free response questions.  Not only does the exam test key knowledge, but also critical thinking skills and scientific practice, such as the ability to interpret models, pose scientific questions, analyze data and interpret scientific theories and explanations.  The ability to think across multiple topics is critical to success in this exam.

We work with students to develop the skills needed for success.  For students already enrolled in an AP chemistry course at school, we compliment the work being done in the classroom (supplementing with AP practice tests to reinforce knowledge and build critical thinking skills).  For Honors Chemistry students, we tailor tutoring sessions with a view to AP test preparation and, if needed, a focus on understanding concepts studied in class.

The test is graded on a scale of 1 (No recommendation) to 5 (Extremely well qualified),  Grades 4 and 5 are generally used for College Credit.  Many of our students successfully obtain a 4 or 5 on the exam.
